About the Project

Origin

The Education Bureau (EDB) promulgated on 15 December 2022 the Guidelines on Teachers’ Professional Conduct (“the Guidelines”) to clearly stipulate the professional conduct and norms of behaviour required of teachers. The Guidelines are applicable to all registered teachers in Hong Kong. The EDB is also developing a Guiding Framework for Primary and Secondary Teacher Education (TE) Programmes (Bachelor of Education) (“the Guiding Framework”) to ensure that graduates from TE programmes are competent education practitioners in primary and/or secondary school settings, able to uphold professional values and ethics, and possess knowledge and skills required of a professional teacher.

In view of the introduction of the Guidelines and the forthcoming Guiding Framework, the EdUHK has set up a Work Group on Curriculum Review of Teacher Education Programmes (WGCRTEP) at the University level in January 2023 to review and enrich the curricula and co-/extra-curricular activities, and set additional exit requirements of the teacher education programmes leading to Qualified Teacher Status.

This Project aims to:
  1. through the curriculum review and mapping against the Guidelines on Teachers’ Professional Conduct and the Guiding Framework for Primary and Secondary Teacher Education Programmes, identify the missing gaps for curriculum enrichment;
  2. develop the necessary teaching and learning resources/materials and activities to implement the curriculum enrichment and revisions and exit requirements to address the Guidelines and the Guiding Framework;
  3. equip our student teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform as professional, effective and reflective school teachers, the correct interpretation of the Guidelines and to inculcate our prospective teachers’ moral and ethical values and virtues by enriching the curricula and their learning experience through experiential learning activities.
